Is Grey Hair a sign of getting old?
We all worry when we first find those few 'lighter' hairs. We all perhaps try to pull them out and forget about them, and later on become more concerned as we seem to not be able to cover it up anymore! However, is it really something to worry about? Is it really a sign of aging? And can we do anything about it?
First of all, it may be helpful to know some general information about grey hair and how it occurs, to understand the process and then how to deal with it.
Grey hair in itself is not specifically related to aging. Gray hair can occur as young as in our teens and range into our late 50's and even older.
Everybody is different but the pigment of our hair is generated in the same way. Initially, hair is white. The cells in our hair follicles called "Melanocytes" generate pigments, the main one being Melanin. This gives our hair its "Color". In general, the more melanin present, the darker the hair color; the less melanin, the lighter the hair color.
When these Melanocytes stop producing the pigment the result is a transparent hair. The transparent hair against your healthier darker hair gives the appearance of Gray hair. In reality the hair is not Gray but transparent.
Harvard scientists propose that a failure of melanocyte stem cells (MSC) to maintain the production of melanocytes could cause the greying of hair as one potential cause. Heredity is another potential cause, and down to genes. In some cases, gray hair may instead be caused by a deficiency of B12 or a thyroid imbalance.
So there are many causes, it isn't specifically the aging process.
Once the actual grey hairs appear they cannot be reversed. However, with correct OVERALL health it is possible to perhaps restore some of the melanocyte production in the hair follicle to help produce healthy colored hair again.
Supplements for general health therefore can help.
Our Total Balance isn't specifically a hair supplement, however it can help in terms of helping to prevent greying or aging of hair in the same way, simply by trying to keep the hair follicles healthy. It isn't for this or any other purpose a sole cure and you should ensure that your lifestyle is healthy, diet, fluids, exercise. Also our Omega 3 Premium or Omega 3 QH/Ultra is helpful, as fish oils are known to be good for not only general systems in the body but also skin, hair, and nails, and the added herbal ingredients in these two versions are known for their further skin, hair and nail help.
Ensure too that all hormonal levels are good, which is also where Total Balance can help, for both men and women, and even our Male Rejuvenator for men if further more specific hormonal causes are expected.
Total Balance and Omega 3/DHA Premium, as well as a healthy diet, lifestyle, fluid intake, and exercise, can help beneficially as part of an entire approach, to ensure that your hair follicles are as healthy as possible, therefore giving you the best chance of optimum result in any other specific area - such as if you were to try a specific product for hair color growth.
Also the improvements in general supplements, lifestyle, etc, you can use other more specific hair product is much more likely to work. So you could even work both together if you wished.
We do have people that have taken our Total balance and Omega 3/DHA ranges with results that their hair and skin have improved both in strength, color and general youthfulness. Benefits are individual of course and degrees of them too.
