Super Antioxidant for Energy and Heart Health

Ubiquinol CoQ10 Health Benefits

Ubiquinol should not be confused with the oxidised form of Coenzyme Q10, known as Ubiquinone. Kaneka QH Ubiquinol is the active, non-oxidised form of CoQ10, developed and produced by Kaneka in Japan. Kaneka QH Ubiquinol is naturally fermented from yeast and is biologically identical to the Ubiquinol in your body.

  • Bio-available - Kaneka QH Ubiquinol is the form of CoQ10 that the body naturally produces, meaning there is no need for this to be converted from Ubiquinone and it is more effectively used as a result.
  • Antioxidant - Supports the management of free radical activity in the body. CoQ10 has been shown to protect brain cells from oxidative damage and reduce the action of harmful compounds that can lead to brain disease.
  • Strengthens - Ubiquinol supports and strengthens vital organs such as the heart.

Ubiquinol is a naturally occurring nutrient in the body, with levels most concentrated in organs that use the most energy, including the heart, liver and kidneys. The powerful antioxidant helps to support the organs from damage and provides cellular energy.

Ubiquinol is a fat-soluble nutrient and was identified some decades ago, but was not able to be used in dietary supplements because of its instability. Its instability is due to the two extra electrons that it contains and is ready to ‘donate’ to mop up free radicals as soon as it is exposed to air or oxygen.

Kaneka, the original developers of CoQ10, have been able to develop a process that has improved the stability of ubiquinol to the extent that it is now able to be used in dietary supplement products. In fact, we believe that the Kaneka QH ubiquinol from Kaneka is the best CoQ10 available, hence it was our first choice to use this in our Omega 3 / QH Premium.

Because ubiquinol is highly sensitive to oxygen, we ensure that when the ubiquinol is incorporated into our fish oil its exposure to oxygen is limited because we want our customers to get the best quality product possible.

Uses of Ubiquinol CoQ10

Ubiquinol plays a crucial role in ATP synthesis. This naturally occurring process in the body produces energy and is considered to be one of the most important functions in cellular systems. However, it also has other benefits to overall health.

Another benefit associated with ubiquinol is that it is thought to help support normal blood pressure levels, promoting healthy blood flow throughout the body, as well as supporting heart function. As mentioned earlier, ubiquinol is a powerful antioxidant that helps the body manage free radicals which ultimately helps support the immune system and increase our ability to fight disease and infections which is why we have made it a key ingredient in our Omega 3 / QH Premium.

Brain health

Studies have suggested that Ubiquinol supports healthy neurological and brain function.

Fertility

Ubiquinol CoQ10 plays a key role in sperm cell energy production and motility.

Heart health

Several studies on CoQ10 show that it supports heart health by helping with circulation and a healthy cholesterol profile.

Antioxidant

Ubiquinol helps to manage free radical activity in the body by binding to them and allowing them to be safely eliminated from the body. This action allows CoQ10 to help defy the visible effects of aging.

Signs You May Need Ubiquinol CoQ10

As we age, the level of Ubiquinol in our body decreases. This is particularly the case once we surpass 40 years of age, or if we are on statin medication. Statin medications drastically deplete the natural levels of Ubiquinol by blocking the production of Ubiquinol in the liver. Ubiquinol is also an especially important nutrient to supplement if you have a family history of heart related concerns.

In the plasma of healthy people, more than 90% of CoQ10 exists in the reduced form, ubiquinol. The ratio of ubiquinol to CoQ10 in the plasma is a bio-marker for oxidative stress, indicating that people suffering from strong oxidative stress may have lower levels of ubiquinol in their plasma.

Ubiquinol levels have also been shown to be lower in older individuals and those with cardiovascular, neurological, liver and pancreatic-related conditions. Learn more about Kaneka ubiquinol and cardio health on our blog.
