Too fat for the army?

According to an article on the CNN website, more than a quarter of young adults are unable to meet physical requirements to join the military.

According to an article on the CNN website, more than a quarter of young adults are unable to meet physical requirements to join the military.

In fact, a group of retired armed forces leaders reckon that this creates a potential threat to US national security. In the article, retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Norman Seip said: "It's not drug abuse, it's not asthma, it's not flat feet -- by far the leading medical reason is being overweight or obese."

The Army's body fat limit for women in the 21-27 age range, with no prior service is 32% body fat and for males, the limit is 26%. Once enlisted, individuals also have to pass annual physical tests.

It seems unbelievable that the obesity epidemic has penetrated the defenses of even the US army!

If America hit the snooze button after President Obama announced the setting up of a Task Force on Childhood Obesity…with his wife, Michelle Obama leading the program with her Let’s Move campaign…this latest alarm should hopefully send a clear wake-up call to a nation getting more obese by the day.

It is not just the US that has this problem….the UK is just as bad, as is Australia and New Zealand. All have similar lifestyles which contribute to this problem.
